And now, a moment with the Fair Folk.
THE FAIR FOLK
Few monsters have taken root in rumor quite as thoroughly as the fairies. Legend says they were born from seeds fallen from the Qliphoth tree, the dark mirror of the Tree of Life. They plague mankind with ills and misfortunes, ranging from innocuous-but-annoying pranks to child theft or murder. They must be slain or driven out wherever they are found. So go the stories.
In truth, the fair folk are reflections of mankind and his brethren. They are creatures of dream come to life in the Mana Shadow, the source of all mana. The shadow is a dreamlike, ethereal place whose nature changes as easily as a daydream. The fairies live in this eternal waking dream; being creatures of pure magic, their lives are eternal, peaceful, and surreal. They are, in essence, children.
Children with enormous magical powers. Children prone to boredom. Children who have felt and experienced very little.
The physical world, to the fairies, seems a world full of strange toys that feel. They cry, laugh, scream, they can even be neutral without being bored. It is a remarkable novelty, and it fills the fair folk with joy. Especially when they scream and cry.
The fair folk can feel pain, but from their limited experience, they have nearly no idea what it is, other than it happens when you twist up a person real tight and see all the red pour out of them, or you make the grownup girl do something weird with the little boy she keeps safe, or when you make the suits of armor come to life and poke their weapons in the party guests. They know it makes very amazing things happen, though, and so force it upon people whenever they can.
It's fortunate fairies only occasionally leave the mana shadow, and that they are usually satisfied with little wrongs and the occasional strange gift. Aside from misfortune, fairies also bring truly excess amounts of mana. Most beings maintain a balance of mana in their bodies; while storing a little more can be useful for magic, too much causes mana to build up in a physical form in one's body, causing grievous injuries, and typically sterilizing or altering the seed of victims, that all their future children will be mutants.
Understandably, something must be done when a fairy (or two, or, horror of horrors, more...) decides to take an extended lark in the Realworld.
