This doujin was being translated by a very godly anons before /desuchan/ went under. Several anons successfully translated and edited 6 pages of the doujin before the site crash.

Now I ask of you: did ANY anons save those pages? Having to start COMPLETELY from scratch would be a shame.

Need a bit of help with a/two word(s).

擦り立てる Can't find it in my dictionaries. Though, I do know that the first part is "rub/touch" and the second part is "stand/set up".

I think it means rub and standing litterally but idk? It doesn't make sense to me where did you find this at?

If you look at the translation in >>70, that part is being quoted(the part before って), although it confuses me now that I look back at it why it is.

Someone pointed this out to me...

"Why do you put Shimada on your doorplate?" Does this look strange to anyone else? Wouldn't it be "Why did you put"? Since it has to be in the past tense, as he's not doing the action now. (Unless he has some electronic doorplate that he has to input every time, or if he has multiple doorplates, but then doorplate would need to be plural)

What the is it now
みなさん
or
みんなさん

the dictionairies say both is correct.

>> No.90   [Delete]   [Edit]

>>87

  1. "Shimada" is the name of the former resident.
  2. Jun left the doorplate unchanged because he didn't want his name public.
  3. That's why the doorplate says Shimada, not Sakurada. And that's why the 14-year-old Jun disappointedly called his future self "小さい" (small-minded/petty/puny/not ambitious).

It looks like Desuchan doesn't have that many Japanese moonspeakers, but we do seem to have a number of other languages represented. What languages do you speak, read, or potentially translate from?

For me, it's French; je suis un Desuchanneur francophone (bien qu'on ne trouve pas tellement de demande de traduction pour les B.D's francophones dans ce genre d'endroit...)

I speak Finnish, my first language, and English as my second language. ENGRISH I say. I studied Swedish (everyone has to) and German in middle school, but I bet I couldn't buy a ticket in railway station in Berlin or Stockholm even if my life depended on it. I also have a textbook for Japanese but I'm stuck in chapter 5.

I know English, French, German, Latin, Spanish and Hindi. I can also recognize a few Japanese phrases from watching too much anime (if there is such a thing) and I'm hoping to start Korean this summer since I'm going there next spring. These aren't actually useful languages, but I know Klingon (Star Trek), Quenya (Lord of the Rings), and Loxian (Enya). I'm a serious languagefag.

>But really... I took 4 years of Spanish or so and am rusty, am studying Japanese, and my study of German is currently on-hold(I never got too far, unfortunately). Only thing I'm fluent in is English, even though I love languages. :(

This.

I also speak Viet and Singlish. Korean's next on the list once I'm done with Jap.

Where did you learn Quenya? I've been interested in learning one of Tolkien's languages for a while now, particularly the one that is inscribed on the ring. However I've never found any of resources I discovered comprehensible and they all presumed that I was familiar with the structure of Tolkien's languages, which I'm not. Any chance that you can provide a link that will point me in the right direction.

Never knew you speak the Singaporean creole of English.

Anyway,I speak my native Malay and English with equal fluency. I know the most basic of Arabic, Portuguese and Spanish and am looking to sharpen up on those two languages and am aiming to learn Japanese, French, Italian and some obscure languages like Basque. Man, I do aim to be a polyglot.

Just looking for a quick translation of the following text:

ai shimai docchi ni suru no

>> No.111   [Delete]   [Edit]

What kind of context is it?

>> No.112   [Delete]   [Edit]

>>110
Unlike english japanese is a fully contextual language.
Therefore if you hear something you nearly always need some hints of conversation or you will understand absolutly nothing.
The problem is that many words sound exactly the same. In written Japanese this is somewhat reduced by using kanji that are unique for each word and make clear what you mean.
for example i found over 200 meanings of ai in my dictionary but i guess the most popular would be 愛 for love
my guess for this sentence is a grammatical wrong form of docchi no shimai o aisuru which sister do (you) love
subject and object still not clear

>> No.113   [Delete]   [Edit]

>>111

No context, it's the title of a game I'm interested in.

>>112

If it helps, I managed to find the moon runes for it:

愛姉妹~どっちにするの!!~

>> No.114   [Delete]   [Edit]

>>113
k then 愛姉妹 seems to be a proper name 愛 can be love, lust, desire and so on while 姉妹 written with older and younger sister means sisters or partnership in general.
i guess its love sisters - which one will i do

It probably would, if I could install the IME in the first place. It's got a habit of not working.

Also, seeing as I can't even read the stuff outside of Firefox, I don't much think being able to write it would help much.

Anyway to fix these problems first?

You can search for both Japanese and English words and phrases there. Pretty good if you want a less dictionary-like translation of a word/phrase.

>> No.109   [Delete]   [Edit]

Now and then I tend to wonder if my dictionaries are up to date or if they are missing useful words and phrases.

Anyone know where you find the up to date edicts and such? And how often they are updated?

It happened a few months ago when I was asking about something and someone said it turns up in rikaichan, except it didn't for me so I assume mine is a bit outdated or just not big enough.
